Fallen From Grace

By: Ben Howard

Please turn with us in the Book of Galatians, chapter 5.  I want to speak on a message and entitle it “Fallen from Grace,” and I want to subtitle it “Where there is no law, there is no transgression.”  This is kind of new to me, so we’re just going to have to depend on the Lord to direct us in what to say, and I believe He will.

Let’s bow our heads in prayer if you will, please.  Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, we thank you for this privilege to come to you, to stand before you with your Book open, and to stand up to be identified with Our Sacrifice.  Lord, you died for us; you gave all.  We thank you Lord, that you died to save a people from sin.  Lord, you died to loose a people from the curse of the law.  O God, in the name of Jesus, I pray that you will come among us in that very, very special way, that you will just take all doubt and fear from among us, and that you will just lift us up in heavenly places in Christ Jesus where we can believe that all things are possible.  Lord, I pray that you will enlighten our eyes, as the Word says, that we may see these great truths that you’ve laid in the Word for us in this last day.  Just move by your Holy Spirit, anointing us to minister the Word.  Anoint the congregation to receive, and we’ll be careful to praise you, in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

I believe Jesus came for a reason. I believe He died on the cross for a reason, and it was not a lost cause.  There was a people already under the law before He came and died.  If the law could have saved them, then He would have died in vain.
I want you to notice - the same situation today, that Paul dealt with in the Book of Galatians.  In the Word of God, there was a period of time the people of God came from Genesis to the time of Moses without any written Word at all.  They had no Bible, but they had a living God amongst them.  Then God gave a written Word, through the mouth of Moses (the first five books in the Bible).  Then the prophets followed shortly thereafter, and they wrote and instructed God’s people further; as certain laws were given to keep people’s conscience alive until Jesus came.
In the Old Testament and under the law, God dealt with a people from an external standpoint, through do’s and don’ts; but in the New Testament, He deals with us as Christ in us, the hope of glory.  The early Church started out strictly without a written Word.  They only had the Old Testament.  They went many years where they were led by the Spirit of God and the ministry; but sad to say…, many of them began to look back and lean back to do’s and don’ts; and those that did, they fell out of the marvelous grace that they were placed in.  They weren’t lost, but they fell out of the marvelous grace of God.  I believe that God has grace that He’s revealing to a people in this end time.  I believe that the full strength of the Spirit of God is returning to the Church as we receive the full strength of the Word of God.  Hallelujah!  That early Church had something besides just carrying the Bible around.  They had something besides just being religious.  They had something besides little religious programs that were in competition one with the other.  They had a living Jesus living within them.
