We often see and hear reports via television, radio
and newspapers about famous people who have passed
from this natural life, and they leave behind a
legacy, or a “cause” very dear to their heart. Very
often, the people who have died leave a great amount
of money, or a significant means with which to carry
on their work or their legacy. The opportunity to
continue a legacy left behind without great financial
means is rare. When this is the case, the “cause”
usually involves carrying on a message or a
far-reaching benevolent work for the benefit of
humanity. When our Lord Jesus Christ submitted
Himself to the cross at Calvary, and gave His life’s
blood to cover the ugliness of our sins, He, too, had
an important legacy, a message of greatest
importance. Of course, the message He wanted to
continue was a spiritual one, with far-reaching
effects to our personal lives. The complete message
of our Lord Jesus Christ affects every avenue of our
lives - - spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical.
With the thought in our hearts that there was a
ministry to continue -- a “legacy,” if you will, -- we
bring to you the message within this booklet. We will
explore with various Biblical scriptures how our Lord
Jesus Christ continued His ministry after His death.
The specific “plan” that our Lord Jesus Christ left
within the hearts of true believers of His message did
not contain great financial backing. Often times,
matters of the heart require a force greater than
money. True belief in the importance of carrying
forth the “legacy,” or the message, is the strongest
catalyst. When this sincere belief comes first, the
financial force will definitely come to assist the
work. Allow the Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ - the
Holy Ghost - to touch your heart and even your mind,
as you read. You will be blessed as you read the
message prayerfully and thoughtfully. This is our
most sincere prayer for you.
I believe it is very important for us to know and
understand the depth of the Word of God for our
present day and time. We want to know what portion of
the Word of God specifically applies to us, as we live
and grow in our daily spiritual and natural lives.
The importance of the knowledge of the Word for our
time cannot be over-emphasized. Our time in history
is nearing an end, and to understand and “see”
ourselves in the portions of the Word of God that
specifically apply to us can give us the greatest
peace and joy we could ever know. We can continue to
remember that we are Gentiles. Jesus spoke specific
words basically for the Jews. On many occasions,
ministers and others will relate certain scriptures to
the church, or the Bride of Christ, and those specific
words do not apply to us. There are scriptures of
instruction that do not apply to the Kingdom age that
Jesus spoke about when He was here on the earth. The
New Covenant was not opened until after Jesus’ death.
The four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John
record the actions of Jesus. These gospels recorded
where Jesus went, what He did, the manner in which He
raised the dead, and healed the sick. These gospels
tell how He walked on the water, and they tell of the
predictions He made.
After His earthly ministry, Jesus Christ presented
Himself to the Jews as their King. He rode in
Jerusalem and people were breaking palm leaves and
throwing them down for His donkey to walk on. He
marveled at the crowd singing, “…Hosanna to the
King!…” However, the Jewish religious leaders
rejected Him and turned Him in to the law authorities
to be crucified. Israel rejected their King and the
world did not enter into the Millennium. (The
“Millennium” is a thousand-year period of peace when
Jesus Christ returns to the earth to live and rule.)
The world did not enter into this period of time;
however, Jesus spoke many words that told of
happenings to take place during this Millennium to
come. When Jesus Christ died on the cross, a New
Covenant was opened. A New Covenant was opened, and
this New Covenant brought with it the life of the Holy
Ghost, on the day of Pentecost! The followers of
Jesus Christ were the first believers to experience
the process of being “born again.” The followers who
came to Jesus Christ as believers in His teachings
were not “born again” in the same manner as we
understand being “born again.” The noted difference
between the two segments of believers is this: The
believers who came to Jesus Christ during His earthly
ministry before His death did not receive the gift of
the Holy Ghost, -- or the experience we understand to
be the “new birth.” Believers who received Jesus
Christ only received the “new birth” after the day of
Pentecost. (John 7:38)
Here is a very interesting fact that I would like
to relate concerning the Holy Ghost. Many great and
notable men died in the Old Testament writings. Men
such as David, Joseph, and Daniel died and went to the
grave to “sleep with their fathers.” The scriptures
record that these men, and others, “…gave up the
ghost.” However, the scripture does not say that any
of them, (not even Adam), gave up the “Holy” ghost.
The word “ghost” referred to when these men passed on
was the “spirit of man.” These men “gave up the
ghost,” but none possessed the “Holy Ghost.” These
men were “holy” men, in a sense. They were good men,
and contributed greatly in the whole plan of God.
However, when Jesus Christ died, He “gave up the
(Holy) ghost.” The Holy Ghost is the very Spirit of
God who returned on the day of Pentecost. Jesus
Christ had said, “…I am with you now, but I shall be
in you.”
