Preached in Glen Fork,
West Virginia
On July 31, 2004
By Brother Ben Howard
Please turn to the Book of Deuteronomy, chapter
18. I don’t use notes to preach by, I just go
according to the anointing of the Holy Ghost. The
Bible says, “Take no thought about what you’ll say.
It will be given to you in that self-same hour.” It
doesn’t mean that we don’t study, but without His
anointing it’s not good.
I was raised in the mountains, and we were very
poor. Sometimes we wouldn’t have any salt or soda to
go into the cornbread, so Mama would make the bread
with just water. Though it didn’t have any salt and
soda in it, it still had all the vitamins in it, but
it just didn’t taste good. It just didn’t hit the
spot. The same way about preaching the Word of God;
we can get up here and read notes and make a speech,
but unless it’s got that anointing, seasoned with the
anointing of the Holy Ghost, then it just doesn’t get
it done. So we are trusting in the Holy Spirit to
bless and lead.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, We thank you for
this, another opportunity to come and stand before
your people to speak the Word. And as your servant
Paul said, “We are ambassadors of Christ, and we are
here in Christ’s stead.” Lord, we always feel
unworthy to even quote that, but You are the one that
made the statement, You are the one that said it. So
we offer this vessel of clay unto you, Lord. We pray
that you will anoint our lips of clay, anoint our
mind. And may the Holy Spirit just come in and take
over. We will be careful to praise You in Jesus
Christ’s precious name. Amen.
Reading Deuteronomy 18:15-19—(Moses speaking) “The
LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from
the midst of thee, of thy brethren, (I want you to
catch these next few words.) like unto me; unto him ye
shall hearken; According to all that thou desiredst of
the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly,
saying Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my
God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that
I die not. And the LORD said unto me, They have well
spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them
up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto
thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall
speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it
shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken
unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will
require it of him.”
I want to take the thought from verse 15, “like
unto me.” When Moses said, “God will raise up a
prophet like unto me.” I want to speak on “Ministries
with Similarities.” We are on our way, on a journey,
and none of us are going to get out of here, until it
is God’s time, and we will only get out God’s way. He
doesn’t change for me. He doesn’t change for you, but
He does lay in the Word of God His plan and He lays it
in there for us to go by.
So, God was telling Moses, “I will raise up a
prophet like unto.” I want to take those words “like
unto.” He wouldn’t raise Moses up again, but a
ministry “like unto.” MINISTRIES WITH
SIMILARITIES—that’s what I want to speak on; and I
think it’s going to help us to make sure our ship
keeps running straight, headed for the right harbor,
and that the winds won’t toss us around like the waves
does the ship on the sea and wind up on the wrong
port. We want to wind up on the right port where the
Lord has ordained us to be at a certain time.
Moses said, “God’s going to raise up a prophet
“like unto” me, and every one that won’t hear him I
will require it of him.” All right, in Saint John
6:14--“Then those men, when they had seen the miracle
that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet
that should come into the world.” They were looking
for a prophet, the prophet that Moses spoke of. This
is him; this is the one that should come. Then over
in chapter 7, verse 40, it says, “Many of the people
therefore, when they heard this saying, said, of a
truth this is the Prophet.” They were looking for
“the prophet.” The prophet to come that Moses had
spoken of; and that prophet that was to come was to be
“like unto.” He would be a prophet that God could
speak mouth to ear. That’s the way He spoke to
Moses. That was fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ.
He came as the Son of man, a prophet.
